Ama.Dear
My version of the moment they become canon. Written in script format, at the end of an episode. Try to imagine the characters actually doing/saying what I say they do/say. That's the point of a script, after all, and I kinda like the formatting.
(Abrupt cut from interrogation room to layout room, where Catherine is talking to Greg and Riley)
Greg: So that’s it? He killed his wife and his unborn kid because he couldn’t deal with her mood swings?
Catherine: I’m afraid so.
Riley: (sighs) It’s cases like these that really get to me, you know?
Greg: Tell me about it. (He walks out, running a hand through his hair. Riley and Catherine exchange a look.)
(Fade in on Nick, sitting on the bench in the locker room. The light is gold to indicate sunrise; the end of shift. He is taking things from his lockers when Greg enters.)
Nick: (Looking over) Hey, G.
Greg: Mm.
Nick: What’s wrong?
Greg: Nothing. (Sighs) Rough case, that’s all. You?
Nick: Murder and arson. Not that bad, though. Ray and I found the guy pretty quick. (Greg continues to go through his locker. Nick looks at him for a moment. Close-up on his face. Then he turns back, buttoning his shirt, and speaks slightly louder than before, falsely casual.) Catherine told me about your case.
Greg: What’d she say?
Nick: Not much. But I heard it was a bad day, and you did good anyway.
Greg: Whatever. I just want to go home and start over tomorrow, you know?
Nick: Yeah. (Shuts his locker and stands. Twinkly characteristic-CSI music starts.) See you. (Starts to walk out, but pauses by the entrance.) Hey, Greg… You wanna, um--go get breakfast or something?
Greg: (Looking up for the first time since entering the room, slightly surprised.) Sure. Yeah, that’d do me some good. We should wait around a few minutes though; I left Riley with all the paperwork, she probably wasn’t happy about that. This can be my peace offering.
Nick: (Clears his throat a little, awkwardly. His voice is firm, though.) I meant just you and me.
Greg: (Surprised) Oh. (Thinks it over and starts to smile.) Yeah, that’d be cool. I’ll be right there.
(Nick smiles warmly and exits)
(Close up on Greg, who turns back to his locker and smiles to himself. Cut to credits)
